10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning is not always fun for most of us. But it has to be done. As the winter come to an end and we start looking forward to spring, something inside of us encourages us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and throwing away things we’ve hoarded over the winter months.
But who says spring cleaning is limited to the inside of your house?
The exterior of your home could use a little tidying up after a cold, wet winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will really improve the appearance of your home in Lexington, and, more importantly, will offer much-needed care and maintenance that will save you a lot of money in years ahead.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the optimal time to clean your gutters, because a lot of leaves and debris accumulate in the fall and winter months. Pollen is at its highest in the spring, making a mess in your gutters if they are not cleaned.
Plus, bugs and animals are looking for places to build homes in spring, so having your gutters cleaned will help stop an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and stains, and restoring them to a nice appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Home window cleaning is necessary for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows will not give you too much of a headache, but second and third floor windows are tougher to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is a tough chore, and will require a lot of supplies, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your home’s windows is the recommended solution to get the panes and the outer frame clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You aren’t going to want clean gutters and windows on a dirty house. Which means you will want to pressure wash your home too!
Pressure washing is quick, effective and affordable. You can pressure clean your house, patio furniture, patios, porches and walkways with very little effort. It will remove dirt and mud so they won’t stain your home, and you can also stop the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your driveway and giving it a deep cleaning might seem strange because you’ll be driving on it, but, a clean, well-maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.
A professional pressure washer will do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it is pavement, asphalt, stone or another material. Also consider adding a gravel border to your driveway to really make it pop!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your patio gets the most use throughout the summer months, so it’s easy to overlook it in the winter when you are not doing as much outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio could be in bad shape the first time you go onto it in the spring.
Detergent and water – and a little muscle – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or mildew, you need to consider a more serious option, like power washing, to guarantee that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer long.
6. Roof Cleaning
Algae and moss are common roof problems in Lexington. While you are cleaning the exterior of your home, it is a great time to pressure clean your roof too, but you’ll need to use a different process than what you use for most of your home’s exterior cleaning.
If you see streaks on your roof, algae is probably the reason. Moss is pretty obvious, too. These contaminants can’t be wiped off of shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof of your home. Both of these methods will damage the shingles on your roof.
The ideal course of action for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach solution and leave it sit. This will kill all organic organisms on your roof without reducing its lifespan.
7. Spruce up the Front
The front of your home is going to be what most people passing by see, so try to make the best impression you can for visitors and for yourself! Returning home to a well-maintained exterior will instantly improve your day, and will probably encourage you to spend a lot more time outside.
You can clean your front porch with detergent and water or a good pressure wash. Wipe cobwebs and dirt off of the front porch, and consider painting it for a really bright look! Clean unnoticed areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Garden Tools
You’ll be spending a lot more time outdoors, so spring is a great chance to organize whatever you’ll need for outdoor chores.
Gardening tools and pool care equipment must all have an assigned area outside your home – a place that it is safe from harsh weather and out of sight so it is not a constant eyesore to anyone. Taking the time to organize in the spring will allow you to appreciate the exterior of your home much more during the time of year that you spend the most time outside.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your yard, trees and bushes can make a big impact on the overall look of your home.
Kill weeds around your flower beds and walkways, till up areas where you’ll be planting in the future and sweep off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed killer to make lawn maintenance easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all the bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After sitting unused for several months, your gas or charcoal grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are definitely unappetizing, but they can also make you and your family ill.
Wipe it down to remove leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber or grill brush (so you don’t leave behind particles that can sometimes get into food) and a basic detergent or degreaser.
You could probably finish these projects over the course of a few weekends but it will be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call! Lexington Pressure Washing offers professional home exterior cleaning services for patio cleaning, roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, pressure washing and more!
