METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing chewing gum from concrete depends on how long the gum has been there and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left recently and it hasn’t penetrated the surface yet, we might be able to remove it by covering it with ice until it freezes, then scraping the gum off with a metal putty knife.

The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a more forgiving substance compared to a gooey and sticky glob. Once the chewing gum is frozen, we slide a metal putty knife or scraper directly under the gum residue. Then we move the scraper very slowly beneath the gum and the whole piece should peel right off the concrete.

The above method is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove chewing gum that is already black, or is smashed deep down into the concrete, we use a hot water pressure washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees in order to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal service, we don’t use high pressure because that could harm the surface of the concrete!

Our pressure washers never uses any more pressure than needed to clean commercial concrete. These types of surfaces can be damaged much easier than people think, especially if they’re only 1-2 years old. Concrete can take up to 100 years to cure completely. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional gum removal service.
